Dashain is the biggest festival in Nepal. The festival is known for meeting family members, eating, playing and enjoying.
A lot of Nepali are working in foreign land and they can’t go back home in the festival, so some Nepali artists have gone to the foreign lands to make the foreign bound Nepali at home. Our friends at Nepaliactress.com have compiled a list of artist currently participating in various cultural programs abroad. Those celebrities had sacrificed their own festive needs for the entertainment of other fellow Nepali living abroad.

The top actress in Nepali movie industry Rekha Thapa has celebrated Dashain with her ex-husband and the executive producer of ‘Kali‘, Chhabi Raj Ojha and the lead actor of ‘Kali’ Kishor Khatiwada.
Actor Sraj Garach celebrated the Dashain with his wife Anjana Mishra. Sraj and Anajan had married earlier this year.

Actress Bipana Basnet (the fake Hisila Yami) and her son. Bipana is also the mother of actress Rista Basnet (‘Hostel’ fame).
Actress Sabina Karki is currently in her hometown. Sabina is scheduled to go to Qatar but she is stuck in Janakpaur because of the cancelation of flights from Janakpur to Kathmandu.

Actress Sushma Karki will not be taking Dashain tika this year because of the death of her father. When a closed family member dies, auspicious ceremonies are not conducted in the year ahead. Although she won’t be taking tika she will enjoy the festival with her mother and family members. Like many other actresses, actress Sushma Karki also doesn’t animal sacrifice during Dashain. She says, "I feel scared even on the thoughts of killing animals in festival."
Other actresses who had their close family member died in the last year include Neeta Dhungana whose mother had died in February. Neeta will celebrate Dashain with her father and brother although they won’t be taking any Dashain tika.
Actress Jharana Thapa had lost her mother-in-law during her pilgrimage and wasn’t found. She is also not celebrating Dashain in the memory her mother-in-law. Jharana is on Europe tour to participate in the cultural programs during Dashain.
The ‘Loafer’ actress Rajani KC had recently lost her father. She is still mourning the death and will not be celebrating the festival.
Actress Binita Baral is going to her hometown in Chitwan in Dashain. The actress is currently involved in organic farming and is busy in business to do movies.
For Dashain Binita set aside Rs. 25,000 to spend on clothes. Most of the money she set aside is spent on clothes. She wanted to buy a Kurta Suruwal for the Bijaya Dashami day and few more if the budget permit.
Talking about the tradition of animal sacrifice for meat during Dashain, Binita says that she doesn’t like the tradition. Binita believes such a cruel practice should be stopped. Other than that, she likes everything about Dashain.
Binita wishes everybody a very happy Vijaya Dasahami.
Nepali actress Arunima Lamsal feels the coming of Dashain with cool breeze of wind and sweet smell of Parijat flower. She also gets the feeling of Dashain by the crowd in the market. While in school she used to wait for the long holidays in Dashain. She enjoyed the new cloths and festive environment. These days, she likes meeting family members in the festival. She doesn’t like people abuse the festive spirit by drinking excessively and playing cards.
One of the things she used to like while she was little was the gifts of money. Once a brother gave her $10 as a gift and she still has the money with her. But these days, she spends more in gifting others than what she receives.
Arunima loves eating and prefers goat meat a lot. Although she vegetarian dishes a few days, mostly it is all non-vegetarian food with a lot of goat meat.
Actress Priyanka Karki likes Dashain a lot. She likes the greenery and the cool breeze of the time. One thing she hates about Dashain is animal sacrifice. No animals are killed in Priyanka’s home in Dashain.
This year, Priyanka has to leave country in Dashain. She is scheduled to participate in cultural program in Qatar.
Priyanka wishes everybody a very happy Dashain.

In these days, Actress Rekha Thapa‘s is fully occupied in the election preparation and the film release. Rekha’s movie ‘Kali‘ is releasing in Dashain and she has continue the promotion for the election. In addition to politics and film Rekha has also entered in another field – social work. She has started a fund-raising program and says that she will continue in social work.Rekha says, "In spite of being busy, I will try to enjoy the festival." ‘Kali’ is releasing on Fulpati so, she will be working full time in the promotion of the movie. In the free time after the promotion and election, she will go to her place in Morang.
Rekha wishes everybody a very happy Dashain 2070.
As usual, Actress Nandita KC goes to her home in Arghakhachi to celebrate Dashain. Nandita loves Dashain gets excited when talking about the festival.
‘I like the Dashain tika on my forehead and Jamara on my hair. I also like the blessings from my elders,” says Nandita. One thing Nandita doesn’t like about the festival is animal sacrifices in homes and temples in the name of the festival. Nandita clarifies her concern, “Even if the tradition is age old, killing something to celebrate is not good.”
Nandita has set aside Rs. 15,000 to spend in Dashain. Given the inflation, the amount is not a big sum. She says that she will spend all on it in clothes. While in Europe earlier this year, Nandita had bought enough clothes so, she is not shopping much.
Nandita KC wishes all the readers a very happy Dashain and asks not to kill innocent animals to celebrate the festival.
On the Fulpati day of Dashain two movies of Rekha Thapa are releasing. Such a release of ‘Kali’ and ‘Damini’ at the same time can divide the viewers causing loss of revenue to both of them.
It seems, the clash in release is started when Rekha choose Chhabi Raj Ojha to distribute the movie. Before that, distributor Manoj Rathi was supposed to release the movie. Manoj Rathi group lost the right when Chhabi Raj Ojha entered the scene. After that, Manoj Rathi group purchased the rights of Bhojpuri film ‘Damini’ to release on the same date.
It seems, Chhabi couldn’t take it anymore when ‘Damini’ replaced ‘Kali‘ in Bishowjyoti theater. Chhabi wrote a letter to the Film Development Board to intervene the issue and let the Nepali movie get a preferred treatment.
Manoj Rathi says that the movie was also shot in Nepali language along with Bhojpuri language, so it is not a foreign movie. In addition, the actors and crew members in the movie are Nepali so, he says, the issue of the movie being a foreign movie is baseless.
At the time of the biggest festival in Nepal, Vijaya Dashami, two movies releasing on October 4 are mostly unheard of. The movies named ‘Papi Raat’ and ‘AK 47′ aren’t much advertised and aren’t expected to attract much audience.
‘Papi Raat’ was shot 2.5 years ago and features Sushil Chhetri, Sumina Ghimire , Saroj KC, Ramesh Budhathoki etc. The movie directed by Shyam KC is made under Jenim Films banner and produced by Yuvaraj Khatri. The movie features the music of Anand Khatri and choreography of Govinda Rai. The cinematographer of the movie is Shiva Dhakal.
Another new release ‘AK 47′ is directed by Brilliant Bista. The movie made by Bishal Films banner features Bishal Bista, Milan Sapkota, Bini Khatiwada, Sushil Pokharel, Deepak Chhetri, Dilip Thakuri etc. in main roles. This movie was also shot three years ago.
